1. 일반적인 사실에 대한 if 조건절
   1. If he doesn’t say anything, that means he’s upset. (걔가 아무 이야기를 하지 않으면, 화가 났다는 이야기야.)
   2. If it smells bad, it’s probably not safe to eat. (냄새가 안좋으면 아마 먹기에 안전하지 않은거야.)
   3. If there are too many people, it’s better to go somewhere else. (사람이 너무 많으면 딴곳에 가는게 나아.)
   4. If you take the subway, it’s faster. (너가 지하철을 타면, 더 빨라.)
   5. If you leave before 5 o’clock, there isn’t much traffic. (5시 전에 출발하면, 차가 별로 안막혀.)
2. 현재의 사실에 대한 if 조건절
   1. I live far from school, so it takes a lot of time to go to school in the morning. If I lived closer to school, I could save more time. (난 학교에서 멀리 살아서, 아침에 학교에 갈때 시간이 많이 걸려. 내가 만약 학교 근처에 살았다면, 시간을 더 절약할 수 있었을거야.)
   2. I go to work 6 times a week. So, it’s hard to make plans on weekends. If I went to work just 5 times a week, I would be able to do more things on weekends. (난 한주에 6일을 일 하러 가서, 주말에 약속을 잡기가 어려워요. 만약 내가 한주에 5번만 일하러 간다면, 주말에 더 많은 것을 할 수 있었을거야.)
   3. I have an external hard drive, so I can carry my music and movies wherever I go. But if I didn’t have one, I couldn’t do that. (난 외장 하드가 있어서 음악이랑 영화를 어딜 가든 들고 다닐수가 있어. 근데 내가 만약 외장 하드가 없었다면, 그걸 못했을거야.)
   4. I gain weight quite easily. So I have to be careful about what I eat. But I didn’t gain weight so easily, I wouldn’t have to be so careful about what I eat. (난 살이 잘 찌는 편이라서, 내가 먹는 것에 더 조심해야해. 내가 만약 살이 잘 찌지 않는다면, 내가 먹는것에 더 조심하지 않아도 될거야.)
3. if 조건절 - 미래
   1. 어떤 조건 하에 나의 의지/계획
      1. If it rains this weekend, I’m going to stay home. (만약 이번주에 비가 내리면, 난 집에서 쉴거야.)
      2. If she asks, I’m just going to pretend I don’t know anything. (만약 그녀가 물으면, 난 그냥 모른척 할거야.)
      3. If I get off work early today, I’m going to meet up with some friends for some drinks. (만약 오늘 일찍 퇴근하면, 친구들 몇명 만나서 술 한잔 할거야.)
      4. If this happens again, they are going to lose everything. (만약 이런일이 다시 생긴다면, 그들은 모든것을 잃을거야.)
   2. 어떤 조건 하에 ~을 할 수도 있다, 할지도 모른다, 해도 된다, 하면 된다
      1. If you don’t like it, you can return it. (너가 좋아하지 않으면, 환불 처리를 할 수 있어.)
      2. If you study really hard, you might pass the test. (너가 정말 열심히 공부하면, 너가 시험을 패스 할 수도 있어.)
      3. If you are late, you can just take a taxi. (늦으면, 그냥 택시를 탈 수도 있어.)
      4. If you tell her the truth, she might understand. (만약 그녀에게 사실을 말하면, 아마도 이해해줄 수도 있어.)
      5. You don’t have to eat if you are not hungry. (만약 배고프지 않으면 먹지 않아도 되.)
   3. 조동사 + 조동사, 시제 + 조동사
      1. If I can’t save enough money, I might have to borrow some. (내가 돈을 충분히 못 모으면, 빌려야 할 수도 있어.)
         1. might have to: ~해야 할 수 도 있다.
      2. Michael is supposed to give a presentation at the meeting today, But if he’s late, you might have to do it. (오늘 회의해서 마이클이 발표를 하기로 되어있어. 근데 만약 걔가 늦으면, 너가 해야 할 수도 있어.)
      3. If they don’t help us, we won’t be able to finish this on time. (그들이 우릴 도와주지 않으면, 우린 제 시간에 끝낼 수 없을거야.)
      4. If we leave now, we might be able to catch the last train. (지금 가면, 막차를 탈 수도 있어.)
      5. If the weather is really clear, we’re going to be able to take some nice pictures. (날씨가 만약 좋으면, 우리는 좋은 사진을 찍을 수 있을거야.)
4. if 조건절 - others
   1. ~을 했을거다, 이랬을거다, 저랬을거다
      1. I went to bed late yesterday so it was hard to get up this morning. If I had gone to bed earlier last night, it wouldn’t have been so hard to get up this morning (저 어제 늦게 잤어요. 그래서 오늘 아침에 일어나는게 힘들었어요. 어제 좀 일찍 잤으면, 오늘 일어나는게 그렇게 힘들진 않았을거에요.)
      2. I wasn’t prepared. So I didn’t do well in the interview. If I had been more prepared, I would’ve done better in the interview. (준비가 되지 않아서, 인터뷰를 잘 못봤어. 만약 준비가 잘 되었다면, 아마 인터뷰를 더 잘 했을거야.)
      3. I didn’t eat breakfast, so I was very hungry during the test. If I had eaten breakfast, I wouldn’t have been so hungry during the test and I would’ve concentrated better. (아침을 안먹었어서, 시험 동안에 너무 배가 고팠어. 내가 아침을 먹었다면, 시험 치는동안 그렇게 배고프진 않았을거고 더 집중을 잘 했을거야.)
      4. I didn’t know about his situation, so I couldn’t help him. If I had known about his situation, I would’ve helped him. (난 거의 사정을 몰라서 도와줄 수가 없었어. 내가 만약 그 상황을 알았다면 난 도와줬을거야.)
   2. ~을 할 수도 있었어, 했었을지도 몰라
      1. If he had asked me, I might’ve helped him. (그가 나에게 물어봤었다면, 내가 도와줬을지도 몰라.)
      2. If she had practiced harder, she might not have made that mistake. (그녀가 좀 더 열심히 연습했다면, 실수를 하지 않았을지도 몰라.)
      3. If I had looked into it more, I might’ve chosen a different one. (내가 그것에 대해 더 알아봤다면, 아마 다른 결정을 내렸을지도 몰라.)
         1. look into: ~에 대해 알아보다
      4. If I hadn’t told her, she might not have realized how important it was. (내가 만약 그녀에게 말해주지 않았다면, 그녀는 이것이 얼마나 중요한것인지 몰랐을지도 몰라.)
   3. ~할 수 있었을거야, ~할 수 있었을텐데
      1. If I had studied harder, I could’ve gone to a better school. (내가 공부를 더 열심히 했었다면, 더 좋은 학교를 갈 수 있었을텐데.)
      2. If you had asked me, I could’ve helped you. (너가 물어봤으면, 내가 도와줄 수 있었을텐데.)
      3. If you hadn’t helped me, I couldn’t have finished this on time. (너가 안도와줬으면, 난 제시간에 끝낼 수 없었을거야.)
      4. If we had left a little later, we couldn’t have arrived here at this time. (우리가 조금만 늦게 나갔다면, 우린 제 시간에 도착하지 못했을거야.)
   4. ~을 해야했을거야, ~을 해야 됐었을거야
      1. If I hadn’t saved enough money, I would’ve had to be there for another year. (내가 돈을 충분히 모으지 못했었으면, 거기에 1년 더 있어야 했었을거야.)
      2. If she hadn’t passed the exam, she would’ve had to prepare another year for the test. (그녀가 시험을 합격 못했었으면, 1년을 더 준비해야 됐었을거야.)
      3. If you had told me a little earlier, I wouldn’t have had to wait this long. (너가 좀 더 일찍 얘기해줬으면, 내가 이렇게 오래 안기다려도 됐었잖아.)
      4. If I hadn’t made that mistake, we wouldn’t have had to do this again. (내가 그 실수를 하지 않았으면, 우리가 이걸 다시 할 필요가 없었을거야.)
